FlyFishing

The Trout House and Guest Cabin are at the epicenter of some of the most exciting trout waters found in the Rockies. We welcome guests to enjoy casting over wild Brown, Rainbow and Cutthroat trout in our diamond clear Rivers and Streams. From here you can range out on daily adventures to fish the Yellowstone River, the lower 48's only major untamed river, where double digit Brown Trout lurk. To get a shot at these larger river brutes Spring and Fall are your best bets. Bring your 7 and 8 wts and a bunch of cone head streamers in tan and yellow tied to 0X tippets. Late June and early July coincides with the arrival of the giant salmon fly hatch when FlyFishers bang the banks of the Yellowstone with #2 drys targeting gulping trout.

If you enjoy fishing in solitude the many smaller mountain tributary streams hold large populations of wild trout, and are a short drive from The Trout House and Guest Cabin. Just bring your 3 wt. and a load of para adams and royal wulffs in sizes 12 and 14.

Driftboat Fishing

The world renowned Armstrong, De Puy and Nelson's Spring Creeks offer sight casting to larger than average selective trout that appear to be suspended in air, due to the spring water's clarity. These unique streams are on private ranches, are catch and release FlyFishing only, have rod fees, and require reservations. The Spring Creeks have predictable hatches of sulphur duns and PMDs. The rod of choice here is a 9 ft. 4 wt. and the flys are small 18s and 20s, tied to 7X tippets for drys and 6X tippets for nymphs. The Spring Creeks are a 25 minute drive down the valley.

A 30 minute drive south along the Yellowstone River takes you into Yellowstone National Park and its fabled trout waters. The Gardner River, Lamar River, Soda Butte and Slough Creeks, to mention a few, have predictable hatches and the mid-summer hopper action along their grassy banks demands a 5 wt. rod and a box full of foam hoppers, beatles and ant patterns. The wild and native Yellowstone Cutthroat is your target in these waters, where you will be fishing in some of the most breathtaking scenery in America.

Our guests also enjoy stepping out the back door to test the pristine waters of Six Mile Creek. We welcome guests to try their skills on Shiloh's Pond for large beautifully colored native Cutthroats, catch and release please.
